Statement of Intent
KATHERINE' Noir, the first publication by the KATHERINE' collective
The idea for this first volume was born almost immediately after we met. From the start, we shared an observation: feeling invisible within the world of photography. In Paris, collective culture is rare; it's far from the solidarity and energy found in places like Tokyo or Hong Kong. It was precisely the example of these groups, on the other side of the Eurasian continent, that pushed us to carve out our own path. Though we come from different social backgrounds, we share the same desire: to make photography accessible to everyone.
KATHERINE' Noir was born out of a sense of necessity. It is the result of a year of hard work and constant learning. The project kept growing: originally planned as 68 pages, it became 86, then 96, before finally reaching 108. We selected and reworked over 800 photos to keep only the essential, the most coherent, the most striking. Though we've come a long way, this first volume marks only the beginning of a project meant to grow alongside our ambitions.
KATHERINE' Noir tells the story of our everyday lives. It is a tribute to Paris, the city that brought us together and let us create. As the first chapter of the collective, it reflects our inspirations, but above all, the story we are writing today.
